What does the corruption topic actually cover?
Allegations and investigations, prosecutions and their outcomes, procurement and public-contract irregularities, and the institutional response. Allegation and finding are covered in similar language and are very different things.

Reading coverage volume as prevalence. Corruption coverage requires a press free enough to publish it and courts open enough to report on, so volume correlates with press freedom and judicial transparency rather than with corruption. The places with least coverage are frequently not the cleanest, and a cross-country comparison built on this inverts the thing it is trying to measure.
Who publishes on it
Domestic investigative outlets and non-profit newsrooms do most of the substantive work and are often small titles rather than national ones. National press picks up prosecutions. Cross-border investigative consortia publish in coordinated bursts across many countries at once, which produces a very distinctive spike shape.

What it is best for
Best for tracking a specific case through allegation, investigation and outcome, and for detecting enforcement activity. Never appropriate for ranking countries, and weak as an early signal in markets with a constrained press.
Monitoring it over time
Watch for the coordinated-release pattern: a consortium publication puts the same underlying material into dozens of countries on one day, which reads as a global surge and is one story. Track cases individually rather than in aggregate, and treat the gap between allegation coverage and outcome coverage as the useful measure — most allegations never acquire a reported outcome.
